12.00-12.05 – Midday Salute to Australia RAAF Flyover
Gather at midday around Circular Quay for an inspirational event that weaves together cultural and ceremonial traditions in a tribute to our nation. Turn your eyes to the sky to witness the nation’s top pilots perform jaw-dropping manoeuvres to mark our national day.
12.10pm to 12.30pm – Ferrython
The Ferrython, which has been staged on Australia Day every year since 1977, sees Sydney’s iconic green and yellow ferries colourfully dressed in honour of their namesakes as they line up for a race from Fort Denison, around Shark Island and back to the finish line under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The four ferries that will participate in 2024 are Catherine Hamlin, May Gibbs, Fred Hollows and Bungaree. Each vessel will be filled with invited guests from various community groups and charitable organisations, in a celebration of diversity, inclusive and multicultural society.
12.15-12.25pm – Maritime Mayhem
Like a Monster Truck show – but on water! If you’ve never seen a tugboat do a burn-out, head down to Circular Quay and witness the action.
12.30-1.30pm – Navy Helicopter Flag Display
Glance skyward to see the powerful Seahawk chopper tow a giant Australian flag in an aerial celebration of the spirit of our nation.
12.45pm-2pm – Australia Day Harbour Parade
This annual tradition sees boats and crews parade in their Australia Day finest as they challenge other vessels for best dressed and other prizes.
1pm to. 1.30pm – Tallships Race
Watch as an impressive fleet of historic vessels compete for line honours in a race to the Sydney Harbour Bridge
1.30pm to 6.oopm – 188th Australia Day Regetta
First held in 1837, the Regatta is the oldest continuously-run annual sailing event in the world.
7.30pm to 9.30pm – Australia Day Live & Fireworks
An unmissable concert taking place both on land and water, featuring live musical performances from top Aussie acts choreographed to a flotilla of yachts, projections on the Sydney Opera House sails, and stunning pyrotechnic firework display over Sydney Harbour.
