Sydney Sundancer Boxing Day

Kick-off Boxing Day with a spectacular cruise on Sydney Harbour aboard the elegant Sydney Sundancer, and enjoy front-row seats to the world-famous start of the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

The day begins with a short cruise through the stunning harbour before we secure our prime position right on the starting line of Australia’s premier Blue Water racing event. From this exclusive spot, you’ll witness the final pre-race manoeuvres and strategies as the yachts line up, just moments before the starting gun fires.

Your host, veteran yacht racer and skilled skipper, John Boyce, says, “Boxing Day is the best day of the year to be on Sydney Harbour, and the best boat to be on belongs to someone else!” The colourful start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race draws out many 'once-a-year' boaters, creating a lively scene. Both sides of the exclusion zone (reserved to allow the racing yachts room to manoeuvre) are packed with spectators' vessels all vying for a perfect view of the action.

With over 30 years of experience, John expertly positions Sydney Sundancer at the starting line, ensuring guests have an uninterrupted view as the race begins. Year after year, John secures the best vantage points for an unforgettable, up-close experience of the excitement.

As the racing yachts surge forward and the spectator fleet follows, John keeps us close to the action, allowing you to almost feel like part of the race as the yachts skilfully tack for position in this prestigious event. We’ll follow the fleet out toward Sydney Heads, bidding them farewell and wishing them a bon voyage as they head south.

After the fleet heads off, we’ll continue our scenic cruise around Sydney Harbour before anchoring for a delicious late lunch, accompanied by live music from our talented guitarist and singer.

• Parking: please note that parking along the waterfront is challenging on Boxing Day due to the popularity of this event. Plan to arrive at the wharf well ahead of departure time to ensure a smooth start to your day.
